Monique Mannen

Moving to Los Angeles, Monique made a name for herself as the MTV "video queen”. You can see her in Prince’s ‘Kiss,’ and Sting’s video, 'Together,’ as well as movies like, Spike Lee’s School Daze, Coming to America with Eddie Murphy and TV shows like, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air with Will Smith and Mad about You, to name a few. Monique became the first Woman of Color for Nexxus Hair Care print campaign but she is most proud of her a NAACP Theatre Award for Best Ensemble for her stage performance in Ntozake Shange’s acclaimed play, ‘For Colored Girls.....’

Monique was recently featured on Good Morning Australia and Dutch TV show Radar highlighting her acting career and her work with legends Prince and Eddie Murphy.

In 2016 Monique Mannen was identified as one of the most successful people in her native country, Suriname and was featured in its book titled, SURINAME BEKEN(D)T.

Biography

Suriname born, raised in Holland, Monique learned to speak English fluently by watching TV shows once arriving in New York City at the age of 16. After leaving home to pursue a career in dance, Monique was fortunate to earn scholarships with schools like, Alvin Ailey, Joffrey Ballet, and Martha Graham. She performed with Eleo Pomare Dance Company and the George White Ensemble. She started acting and began landing numerous commercials, which led to roles in TV and film.

MONIQUE MANNEN - Monique has been an entertainer her entire life. Her career started with the renowned Alvin Ailey American Dance Center and numerous television, film and stage credits. She was featured in Dance Magazine as " Dancer On The Rise” and in Ebony magazine as “Hot upcoming Starlet”. Monique’s television credits include, “The Parkers”, “JAG”, “Mad About You”, “Sea “ and “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air”. Her film credits include, ”Coming to America”, “ Graffiti Bridge”, “The Adventures of Ford Fairlane ”, “School Daze” and “The Five Heartbeats". But she is most proud of her NAACP Theatre Award for Best Ensemble for her stage performance in Ntozake Shange’s acclaimed play, ‘For Colored Girls’, in which she spoke and Signed (Sitcom) her role simultaneously. Her career behind the camera started as an intern with acclaimed Filmmaker Bill Duke. She was an Associate Producer with Michael Ajakwe Jr. on the play “Three plays by Sara Finney -Johnson” which had a successful run at Zephyr Theater starring Wendy Raquel Robinson and Oscar-winning Comedienne/Actress Monique. She Co-Produced several public service announcements for Americans United For America, Inc”. She co-produced and starred in her first 27-minute short film “All 4 Charity”, which was in the Pan African Film Festival. She recently finished a recurring role on the second season of the Web series “ Giants" on Issa Rae YouTube channel.
